TOO LITTLE TOO LATE

Two touchdowns on their last two drives would not be enough for the COMMANDOS to get a win at Independence. IHS would score on the games opening drive with 3 consecutive first down runs before throwing a 17-yard touchdown pass to put HHS down 0-7 early. Hendersonville would fail to convert on a 4th down attempt on their first drive giving the ball back to the Eagles. Independence would then pick up a first down on a 4th down attempt of their own before scoring with a 1-yard run to go up by 2 touchdowns. The teams would then trade a couple punts each as the game went into the 2nd quarter before a scoring drive by the COMMANDOS would put them on the board. #8 Brent Rowe would pick up a couple of first downs on the ground along with #10 Ellis Ellis before HHS would call on kicker #27 Andrew Martin to come on for a 27-yard field goal to make the score 3-14. After it looked like HHS would get the ball back on a fumble recovery, the COMMANDO defense would allow three consecutive 1st downs before giving up a 32 yard pass for TD before the half, making the score 3-21 at the half. The COMMANDOS would come out after the break and put together a nice scoring drive with 1st down runs by Rowe and a receiving 1st down from #11 Luke Manning to #88 Jack Busey. The drive would end with Manning finding Ellis in the endzone for a 22-yard TD pass, making the score 10-21. Independence would answer on their first possession of the 2nd half with a touchdown drive. Down 10-28, HHS would go 3 & out and the Eagles would extend their lead to 10-35. After failing to convert another 4th down, #5 Nevin DeGraaf would get a turnover for HHS and after a long completion to #3 Keion Stafford, HHS would cut into the lead with a 12-yard TD pass to Rowe. #2 Landon Barton would recover an onside kick and at the end of this drive, Manning would call his own number with a 7-yard run to make the score 23-35. After a failed onside kick, the Eagles would be able to run out the clock. Hendersonville drops to 3-3 on the season and will travel to Region 4-6A foe Wilson Central next Friday night. The Wildcats are also 3-3 on the season. Kickoff is set for 7:00.
