HHS COME OUT ON TOP IN BACK AND FORTH BATTLE

Hendersonville was able to get a Region 4-6A victory on Paul Decker Field Friday night, beating the Lebanon Blue Devils by 4 points in a back and forth battle. The COMMANDOS would overcome three turnovers during the game as a pair of field goals from #97 Ashton Dodd along with touchdowns by #15 Dalton Jones, #20 Nate Hancock, and #32 Derek Kincaid would prove to be enough as HHS took a 26-22 lead in the 4th quarter that they were able to hold onto.

Hendersonville would get the ball to begin the game, and after picking up one 1st down on a run by #14 Issiah Chandler, HHS would punt. Lebanon would be efficient on their first offensive possession marching down the field. The Blue Devils would convert two 3rd downs and a 4th down on their way to the endzone as they took an early 7 point advantage with a 4 yard TD pass. The COMMANDOS would go 3 & out on their next series. The Black and Gold defense would step up and force a 3 & out of their own, as #53 Marcus Thomas had a tackle for loss helping to force the punt.

HHS would get a drive started following the punt as #2 Drew Hohenbrink passed to Hancock before connecting with Chandler for a 1st down. Chandler would then move the chains again with a run, but Hendersonville would have their first turnover when LHS intercepted a COMMANDO pass at the 7 yard line. The COMMANDO defense would force another 3 & out setting up a short field for HHS to work with. Hohenbrink would go back to the air as he connected with #87 Robert Christian to get the ball inside the red zone. Jones would put HHS on the board with a 3 yard TD run and Dodd would tie the game with the PAT. The Blue Devils would answer with another drive. After a big pass play, they would have the ball at the 1 yard line, and they would run it into the end zone to go back up 7-14. On the ensuing possession, Hohenbrink would find #11 Cam Stevens with a 1st down pass before Hancock busted loose for a 64 yard TD run. Hendersonville would miss the extra point leaving them down 13-14. On the next series for Lebanon, Christian would get a tackle for loss before #82 Austin Halas sacked the Blue Devil QB to force another punt. Hohenbrink would run for a 1st down as time ran down in the 1st half, giving the COMMANDOS the chance to take the lead going into the break. Dodd would come on to hit his first field goal as he connected on a 36 yarder, putting HHS up 16-14 at halftime.

HHS would start the 2nd half better than they started the 1st half, as a good open field tackle by Jones on 3rd down would lead to a 3 & out. Hendersonville’s offense would look to add to the lead as Kincaid caught a pass to get HHS inside the 20. Several COMMANDO mistakes would push them back as they would eventually call on Dodd again; he would put 3 more points on the board with a 40 yard field goal. Up 19-14, the COMMANDO defense would allow Lebanon to move the ball again on this drive and the Blue Devils would score on a 15 yard run putting them up 19-20. They would add a 2 point conversion to make the score 19-22. Hendersonville would fumble the ball on the 1st play following the kickoff. After this turnover, Lebanon would be starting 36 yards away from the goaline. After a 1st down by penalty, Stevens would deny the Blue Devils any points as he would intercept a pass inside the 5 yard line. Kincaid would have a tough run to move the ball away from the COMMANDOS own end zone before #8 Brent Rowe would rip off a 60 yard run getting into Blue Devil territory.

After getting sacked on the 1st play of the 4th quarter, the COMMANDOS would attempt a 44 yard field goal that would be no good. LHS would pick up a first down with a run before #76 Wilson Higgs would get a tackle for loss to set up a 3rd and long for Lebanon. The COMMANDOS would get a stop and force a punt. On the 2nd play after the punt, Kincaid would score the go ahead TD with a 67 yard run. Up 26-22, the Black & Gold defense would force a 3 & out on the next series. Hendersonville’s offense would move the ball into Lebanon territory before giving the ball back to the Blue Devils with a fumble. Higgs would come up with another tackle for loss on this possession putting the Blue Devils in long yardage situations. HHS would give up a short completion, but stop Lebanon on 4th down pass attempt to get the ball back. Hendersonville would overcome a pair of penalties as #21 Jackson Alford would seal the game for the COMMANDOS with a tough 1st down run allowing Hohenbrink to knell on the ball as the clock ran out with HHS earning a 4 point victory.
