After a tough loss to start the season, the COMMANDOS traveled to Sam Davis Park to take on the Giles County Bobcats. HHS was able to come away with their first win of 2019 with a 34-7 victory. HHS would kickoff to begin the game, and after a great Bobcat return into HHS territory, the COMMANDO defense would take the field. After giving up a couple of 1st downs, the Black & Gold defense would get a 4th down stop at the 3 yard line. The teams would then trade a couple of possessions with no scores. #10 Ellis Ellis would score the first TD of the season for HHS with a 20 yard run in the 2nd quarter capping off a drive that had first down runs by Ellis, #2 Drew Hohenbrink, and #8 Brent Rowe along with a 1st down reception by #14 Issiah Chandler. #27 Andrew Martin would add the PAT. Up 7-0, #5 Nevin DeGraaf would end Giles County ensuing possession by coming up with an interception. Rowe would put Hendersonville up by 2 scores with an impressive 41 yard touchdown run. The Bobcats would come up with an answer by putting a drive together as the half was coming to an end. They would score with a 16 yard pass to make the score 14-7.
After halftime, Hendersonville would get the ball, but punt after 3 plays. #61 Donnell Brown would force a fumble on the Bobcats first possession of the 2nd half and Rowe would come up with the ball for HHS. The COMMANDOS would add to their lead as Chandler would get into the endzone with a 53 yard TD run, after the PAT snap was off, HHS would lead 20-7. After the COMMANDO defense forced a 3 & out, Chandler would find the endzone again by picking up a bad punt snap by the Bobcats and returning it 7 yards as HHS wend up 27-7. #25 Jacob Newton would end the next GCHS possession by intercepting a Bobcat pass. The teams again would trade possessions before #3 Keion Stafford scored the last points of the night with a 3 yard touchdown run.
Hendersonville (1-1) starts Region 4-6A play next Friday night as they travel to Region foe Station Camp. The Bison (0-2) lost at Gallatin last week and will be at home for the first time in 2019. Kickoff is set for 7:00 at Bison Stadium next Friday night. The Freshman team fell at Mt. Juliet 20-21. The Freshman (0-1) will have their first home game this Thursday night as they will take on Station Camp at Memorial Stadium at 6:30.
