Hendersonville traveled to Station Camp for the 1st Region 4-6A contest of the year and came away with a 48-7 victory over the Bison. After the COMMANDOS kickoff to begin the game, #8 Brent Rowe got the HHS defense off to a good start with a tackle for loss on the 1stsnap. SCHS would pick up a couple of 1stdowns before being forced to punt from midfield. Hendersonville would muff the punt giving the Bison the ball back; after getting inside the 5 yard line, the Black & Gold defense would come up with a goaline stand to keep Station Camp off the scoreboard. #44 Helton Porter would take the COMMANDOS 4th offensive snap 77 yards for a touchdown. #27 Andrew Martin would add the PAT making the score 7-0. Another tackle for loss by Rowe would help force a 3 & out. After the punt #3 Keion Stafford would take the first play 55 yards to the endzone for the COMMANDOS 2nd score of the night. #50 Trevor Throneberry and #59 Evan Zecco would combine for a sack on the next series helping force another punt. #2 Drew Hohenbrink and Rowe would move the ball inside the 5 yard line and Stafford would score his 2nd TD of the night with a 3 yard run as HHS went up 21-0. Porter would make another huge play, this time on defense, as he intercepted a pass and returned to the 3 yard line. #14 Issiah Chandler would get into the endzone this time with a 3 yard run. The Bison would respond with a drive that ended with a 3 yard TD run to make the score 28-7 at halftime.
#40 David Johnson would return the 2ndhalf kickoff 77 yards to the 14 yard line. Two runs by Hohenbrink and Hendersonville would add another touchdown. On the Bison first possession of the 2nd half, #18 Dylan Ferguson would force a fumble that #9 Cody Booker picked up and returned 26 yards for a TD making the score 42-7. After stopping Station Camp on a 4th down attempt, #12 Ryan Oden would start a drive with a 43 yard run. #32 Noah Carmean finished the drive with an 8 yard touchdown run, after the PAT was missed, the score would be 48-7. HHS would get a 3 & out. On the next possession for Hendersonville, #45 Kobie would come up with a huge first down reception. After Whitfield’s big play, #43 Benton Stubblefield and Johnson would grind out first downs as Hendersonville was able to run out the clock.
Hendersonville (2-1) will return to Memorial Stadium next Friday night to face off against the Beech Buccaneers (3-0). The Buccaneers come into the game undefeated after getting a 67-0 shutout victory last week in their first Region game. Kickoff next Friday night is set for 7:00. The JV team does not have a game next week. The Freshman COMMANDOS got their first victory of 2019 on Thursday night by defeating Station Camp 34-14 at Memorial Stadium. The Freshman team (1-1) will travel to Beech next Thursday night for a game that will kickoff at 6:30.
