The COMMANDOS started the 2019 season at Memorial Stadium against the defending class 6A TSSAA State Champions. After a strong start, mistakes hurt the COMMANDOS as they got shutout 0-59. Hendersonville kicked off to Oakland and quickly forced a 3 & out with a 3rd down sack by #22 Will Batson. A bad punt would give HHS the ball just 34 yards away from the endzone. However, Hendersonville would come up inches short on a 4th down attempt as the Patriots got the ball for the 2nd time. On the 2nd play of this drive, OHS would find a seam and take off for a 72 yard TD. Trailing by 7, the COMMANDOS would put together a 12 play drive as they marched down the field picking up 5 1st downs in the process. HHS would end up settling for a 30 yard field, but the attempt was blocked by the Patriots and returned 89 yards to put Hendersonville in a 0-14 hole as the 1st quarter came to an end. HHS would fail to pick up another first down till the 4th quarter having an interception returned for a touchdown as they trailed 0-31 at the half.
Hendersonville got the ball to start the 2nd half, but after 3 plays, they would line up to punt and a bad snap would give the Patriots the ball at the 1 yard line. OHS would capitalize on this opportunity and then another bad punt snap would set up Oakland at the 15 yard line. The COMMANDOS would also have a punt blocked and returned for a TD as well as fumble the ball to give OHS the ball at the 15 yard line.
Hendersonville (0-1) will make their first road trip of 2019 next Friday night as they travel to Giles County (1-0). The Bobcats were able to get a victory at Lincoln County in week 1.
