Coach Balitsos, who goes by Coach Blitz, is starting his 5th season coaching with the COMMANDOS. He is currently in charge of the defensive ends this season. He went to Goodpasture Christian High School and played football and ran track. While playing football for Goodpasture, he was All District, All Mid-state and All State honorable mention during his years there. He still holds the longest kick-off return at Goodpasture of 95 yards against Brentwood Academy in 1988. Coach Blitz played wide-receiver, running back, and defensive back during his high school years. He was also a state finalist two years in a row in track. He graduated from Goodpasture in 1990 and went on to play football at Carson-Newman University. He played wide receiver for Carson-Newman from 1990-1993 and also ran 2 years of track at Carson-Newman. He won the Eagle most dedicated award in Track at Carson-Newman. Coach Jim Wilson (His coach at Goodpasture) and Ken Sparks (College coach at Carson-Newman) have been a big influence on his coaching and football career. Coach Blitz coached at and started football programs at Curry Ingram Academy and Franklin Christian Academy. He is a non-faculty member and is involved in Pharmaceutical/Medical sales. Coach Blitz also is very involved in umpiring baseball for TSSAA here in the mid-state area. He is married to Shannon who is involved in real estate and they have a daughter, Katie J who is 25 and graduated form The University of Tennessee. She was a four year varsity soccer team member at Hendersonville and graduated in 2014. They also have a son, Cooper who is 9 and is in 4th grade at Indian Lake Elementary. Coach Blitz loves his family very much and is a die-hard Notre Dame, Chicago Bears and New York Yankees fan.
